Methodology

Every scan flows through a four-stage validation pipeline:

  1. ArUco scale anchor — A printed credit-card-sized object on the floor of the scanned room provides a known-size reference. Solving cv2.solvePnP recovers the camera's distance to that object in millimetres, anchoring the scale of all downstream measurements.
  2. Cloud-side MoGe-2 metric depth — Microsoft's open-source MIT-licensed monocular metric depth model produces a metric point cloud per keyframe, scaled to physical reality via the ArUco anchor.
  3. Open3D RANSAC plane fit — Walls, floor, and ceiling are fitted as planar surfaces with explicit inlier ratios computed per plane, surfacing measurement quality.
  4. Confidence-gated refusal contract — Below a 0.45 confidence threshold (composed from RANSAC inlier ratio + density + coverage + calibration confidence), the system refuses to return a dimension and asks the customer to rescan, rather than shipping an inaccurate number.

Audit trail per scan: MoGe-2 model version, ArUco scale_factor, reprojection_error_px, RANSAC inlier ratios, coverage percentage, refusal reason if applicable. Available on request to MCS auditors.
